I only speak for myself and years of experience but that doesn't mean others have not found the secret and continue to thrive during the hot summer months. I have pretty much decided a few weeks back that sometime between memorial day and july 4th I will end my fishing season and focus on other things like honey do's, internet marketing research, additional hours promoting my business and etc due to this:
1) I take too much time away from the above mentioned to fish other times of the year and since I won't stop other times of the year I might as well triple up on the stuff I have been avoiding during great fishing times. 2) It's hotter than hell and I never catch much after the above mentioned dates anyway and the money I spend always feels wasted. 3) Even night fishing like the other night sucked and come to think about it...the last 15 times I night fished over the last 4 or 5 years didn't produce any good memories anyway. I usually only night fish mostly in the heat of summer cause I don't want to be to tired during the nice comfortable days of good fishing times so night fishing may work other times of the year. 4) See #2 |

| However, If you are dead set on fishing...find some cool water creeks and wade fish for brownies! Even if you do get skunked, you can stay cool and enjoy the surroundings! |

Summer can be the best time of year to fish if you know what you're doing. Bass bunch up in predictable deep water areas like long points near a creek channel or a hump.
At least, that's what I read in Bassmasters...
I obviously don't know what I'm doing, but that doesn't stop me from trying.
I think I'd have a better chance if I had good electronics on my boat. My Eagle Fishmark 320 isn't good for much other than finding underwater structure. It doesn't show enough detail to tell if there are fish there or not. |

2 months and the October feed starts! LOL There's fish to be caught, but it's all a change in methods. Most of which I'm too lazy to do anymore and I need my sleep. Best thing to do would be to borrow Basser's Bassmasters magazine. Read what it cost him good money to buy and realize it's the same story each year! LOL
Hey, someone tell me when the 'took hybrid start hitting slabs. That's gotta be easy!!! |

Summer advise!! Electronics.....
find the thermocline.... find intersecting humps, points or any structure for that matter, that portrudes at or above the thermocline.. thats a start... especially wind blown areas....
the fish will also be moving around in the open water.. wind is a huge factor.. fish may be 10-15 ft with the thermcline at 20... move move move!! you will catch fish and then they will be gone... a heavy thermocline forces fish out of there comfort zones.. thus, they only have limited to water to swim in.. alot of fish will be moving around open water dipping in and out of the thermocline.. but they are always moving!! open water fishing over a thermocline is a different animal!! the fish have nothing to relate to,except open water and limited structure above the thermocline...... |

| I hear Drum bite pretty good in the summer...What's your problem. When it's hot like it is I'll only fish very early in the day or at sun set. I do look for shade, drop offs, deeper creek channels or humps and rocks in 12 to 30 ft of water. I force myself to use jigs or plactics and fish as slow as I can. Bites are very subtle and sometimes hard to detect in deeper water. Just my thoughts and experience. I've been experimenting with a slow rolling spinner bait with and added weight to get it way down there with adding too much size to the bait itself. Fish slower and deeper and look for shade. |
