I have a Mercury Vmax 150hp. I'm looking at putting a jackplate (Manual)on with a 6" set back. I'm concerned that the steering cables will not be long enough. Any information will be helpful. Thanks

I picked up one of the manual jackplates from Bass Pro in 2009, it's still on my boat today. I love it !!! Ive got a 150hp Evinrude on my boat. I never had any issues with the steering cables when I put it on.

Thanks for the info. It probably doesn't matter but It's a Yamaha not Merc. Did you get any better performance??

A lot!!! It took me a little bit to get it dialed in since it was manual, but since it got it set I haven't changed it.

Mike - make sure that you will have enough room to tilt your motor up, if you have Teleflex steering you should be ok - but if you have Seastar better do some measuring - on all motors the steering mechanism, rotates into the steering well when the motor is tilted up, when you set back depending on motor mfg the steering rods or cylinder the will sit on top of the transom - this will limit your tilt travel -- Sometimes you have to do quite a bit of finagling to get steering right after a setback - most come predrilled - I always used Bobs plates. Talk to a local dealer about what might be involved to do it on your boat I've installed six different set back on a variety of boats and each one had to do something different - that said when you move the prop back to cleaner water you will get about a 5MPH -8MPH boost, they work well with fiberglass pad hulls and so so with aluminum hulls, you are putting that 475# off the transom at 6" - so make sure you use a transom saver plate on all four mount bolts Also make sure your hull mfg will rate the overhung load on the transom -- Boat will handle entirely differently when you install one --
