I finally checked the Upper Mountain Fork off my float bucket list. I shared a cabin with my son and a few family members for 4 days/3 nights. The cabin was right on the river just upstream from the low water crossing on Beachton Rd.

Water was high enough that we had to go through Hatfield Arkansas to get to the cabin. By Saturday morning the bridge was dry again.

We did some bank fishing and hiking until mid-morning Saturday.

When fishing is slow I take pix of my gear...

Craw Jig

When the water dropped enough I dropped in my yaks and went looking for the smallies. Several miles upstream from the low water bridge I found a nice shelf with a few big rocks below. I caught a few 12”-13” fatties before moving on to explore other areas.

Went exploring some of the feeder creeks and found some really cool spots on Beach Creek.

Eagle Creek down on 259

After checking out Sunday we went down to check out Panther Creek below Smithville. We found the access road and made our way down to the camping area. The road ended in a flooded area and we could see the road reemerging on the other side. I did get a phone number off a sign to call for more information about the area.

We stopped at Carl Albert Lake for a few minutes to catch some frisky little bass throwing tiny bett’s poppers on a 2 wt fly rod. We was catching them in the lily pads. It was a cool little lake that will defiantly stop at again on the way by.

Wow! Beatuiful! Thank you for the great report!
I'm going to have to give you a couple of my green grasshopper flies to try with that 2 wt. You'll love 'em (everything loves 'em)

I'm going to have to paddle that stretch if for nothing more than the scenery. Thanks.
