I know there's a separate forum for this, and I posted there, but was wondering if you could help point me in the right direction. I've been through craigslist, ebay, jaxed, the local papers, put out lots of feelers, and called around and am not having much luck yet.

I just made a deal on a 21' Arkansas built Shawnee river boat. I'm looking for a good solid clean 9.9 or 15. Has to be short shaft and 2 stroke. Would like electric start. If it's a 9.9, I need it to be one I can easily upgrade to a 15 like a Johnson/Evinrude that I can upgrade the carb. Have heard that a Yamaha 9.9 is easy to take up too with some reed changes. Will ultimately put better reeds in anyway and shave the head a tad.

This is my first boat like this and I don't know a lot about these small motors. Just want to make sure that it's a good reliable one with plenty of umph as a good deal of my use will be a LONG way from help - not a place I can get a tow home. Any advice would be much appreciated as to both the search process and your recommendations on what would be right for the job.

Is it a 12v or 24v? I assume it's foot controlled rather than a tiller handle? Still looking for an outboard, but a bow mounted trolling motor is definitely part of theplan. If Catfish King hasn't already scooped me, let me know what the deal is. My email address is kunser@arkattorneys.com
