Beans I have a 2002- 200HP Mercury that I want to replace the reeds and increase HP - what would be your suggestion? Any other areas I could tweak to soup it up some - looking for about 10-15HP increase if possible.

I am not sure if replacing the Boysen Reeds on that motor will help do anything. To be completely honest I will have to ask a few guys because that can get real expensive fast. Normally when people are wanting more hp out of a smaller motor I would say just buy a bigger motor but I have read some articles over the past year about the optimax and alot of people are finding 10-20 more horses in their motors. I will get back with you on the how, or what I have heard, since I have never done it.

Reason I asked is that its a 200Horse block(three two barrel carbs not DFI or Optimax) but derated at the jet to 175 - I want to replace my three blade impellar with four blade (for hole shot) but won't get the performance I want from the 4 blade at 175HP. They put 4 blade impellars on the DFI and Optimax models but not the carb jobs (I think actual head on them is around 230 HP.)

I've heard all the "stories" about changing the black box for supertune but I can't find any information on the net about any tweaking I could do to current engine.

Thanks for looking Beans.

Well Tony, If you were talking about an outboard in general (meaning a prop driven) but a jet is a different story, to me anyway. When it comes to horsepower anyways I am clueless. I have a few buddies a little further south that I will ask but I am having a little trouble picturing your boat in my mind. You have a carb driven 200 hp Merc jet. I have seen a 230hp jet Merc bet never a 200 hp jet. Is it a inboard jet or an outboard jet.

Just forget the jet part - its a 200HP standard V-6 Mercury block, with three duces, what do the guys with 200HP do to soup them up?

I can take this block and mount it in any carbed outboard, same carbs and controls, with exception of shift linkages.
