Today on the lake the screen of the HDS 8 on my boat just got real dim and I could hardly see the brightness menu, which was set on 10, and eventually could not see it at all. I turned the unit off and back on and every thing was bright again but about an hour later it did the same thing. This time I just turned it off because I was headed to the ramp. Any one else experienced this?

Were you showing any fish? Mine was covered most of the day with Hybrids. I didn't want to turn mine off though. Sorry I can't help. I would just say check connections. But it don't sound good to me. My 111 did something similar, it would get hot and shut off. Steve took it in for me but they could't find anything wrong. That was when Lowrance was still here.It finally quit doing it and was working fine till I got my new one.

I don't believe in Miracles, I rely on them.

Yes it was showing fish but in skinny water. I was thinking maybe it was getting hot and I was running split screen sonar and GPS. I guess just go with it until it quits then do something because if I send it in there will be down time with likely no solution.

Cheifangler, I would suggest doing a soft rest on your unit to see if this clears up your problem.  It has worked on other units and if it keeps the unit on the boat and you on the water then we are all winners.

To do a soft reset, start with the unit off. Press and hold down the pages button and push the power key. Keep holding down the pages button until the map of the U.S. shows up and it's done (aka...until the unit is completely powered up). This reset will not erase any way points or trails you have saved.

Thanks rottie I will try that. Being computer challenged I really had no idea what to try but will do it on the next trip.

Two OSBA meetings ago, one of the members talked about how he had a bad HDS problem (that might have been related to moisture). When he complained to Lowrance they immediately replaced it. You might want to try that route.
The more you practice, the luckier you get.
