my motor quit me this weekend as i was going across the lake just lost rpm and died could not get it to start again. then when i did it was smoking like a big dog but would not stay running. and seemed to be running rough there is a bit of thick like gear lube coming out of the prop but the lower unit is good and clear its a 96 115 johnson v-4 any ideas? i still have spark on all cyliders and they have a bit of oil on them too. i just put 12gal of gas in and it was mixed correctly. oh yeah the oiler was taken off so you mix your own gas.

Compression test would be the next thing. After that we can start looking towards fuel or you may have sucked a reed

I would compression test it again. Your burning something other than oil if it is smoking hard probably carbon. If the compression is inline start with a details decarb.

beans thanks we got it figured out it was all a fuel prob. there is a little red lever on the side of the fuel pump area it was pulled up and flooding it out thanks for all your help.

it was on the electric choke i guess when i took the cover off the carbs it hit the lever all the way up. and when i fueled up i put my oil in and then my gas and seems to look as if the oil didnt mix all the way and got a slug of oil in my fuel line my guess is why it stalled to begin with. we changed the plugs and put the lever back to where the motor ran well so all in all it is back to normal.
