Kurt, I read in Sunday's paper that AHL is still closed and perhaps opening this fall. The article said they shocked while the lake was drawn down and removed "thousands" of the smaller bass and relocated them. Did they really remove "thousands" or a few hundred. I loved going out there and catching fish all day long. Secondly, did they relocate them to nearby lakes ie. Watonga, Canton, etc.? Thanks for any info. on this.

BBB, I will defer to our regional crew out of Byron State Fish Hatchery for the specific details...580-474-2663

But I think the thousands of small bass is correct.  In no way did this hurt that lake.  The management of AH was focused on producing large sunfish (there are very nice bluegill and redear in that lake) by maintaining a dense LMB population.  Removing 1000+ LMB would simply allow for better bass growth while still producing some good sunfish angling.

Again, you will have to contact the local management crew for specifics (where those fish were taken, etc.), but once the lake opens you will still catch plenty of LMB, and probably some quality size fish now too.  The channel catfish and sunfish are worth the effort to fish for as well.
