my in laws have late 80s inboard. i was told it was a 305 engine. they had it winterized and it would start at that time. the guy winterizing it said it needed a starter. we had starter rebuilt and put it back in. now it will not start. i put new plugs in it and fresh gas along with some heet added to the gas. also changed spark plugs. it turns over but never starts although it sounds like it might. i put gas in carb and made sure it was getting gas, at least in the top jets i can see. we rebuilt the carb last year. i pulled the water seperator filter and it had gunk in the bottom. we pulled the ditributor and it had muddy looking water on it. is that normal?
good fishing and God bless!

Water in the distributor will let the spark jump around, and not fire on the proper cylinder. Clean it out good, and see if that helps.

Is it a Volvo or gm and does it have the alpha one drive. I will pull the manual for ya and see if it has a diagram of the plumbing for it.
