I have an elderly gentleman in my neighborhood who recently had a pond dug out. Fish population is basically zero. It is about a half acre and maybe 8 ft deep. He approached me after overhearing some fishing reports of turning back numerous smalls and several channels about dumping some in his pond. The local fish truck has no more deliveries in the area any time this year and is more than the old guy wants to pay. He just wants a few fish for his granddaughter to catch.
This of course opens up a large number of questions. Among them are:
What about invasives?
Will shad live long in such a pond?
What about blue cats in ponds?
Just how many cats can this pond handle without a serious stocking of bluegill or minnows?
