Trailer lights and a net question

Hooked a tester up to the truck connection to see what was up with my trailer lights and figured I would start with checking fuses and the connection. Weird deal happens, blinkers don't want to work if the tail lights are on and connected. Any thoughts? I'm afraid what the answer my be. Net question. I know the easy answer is "buy another for summer" Seems like my taped 6 ft. net is having a hard time getting down on the shad when they are up near the surface. I was really concerned last winter that the duct tape would not stay on securely for long. BOY WAS I WRONG! Anyway, any thoughts on de-taping a net? Is there anything I might soak it in to ease the goo. Pulling it off as is looks like it will tear any weak spots in the net. Yes, I know that indicates I probably need a new one. CHEAP is my middle name.

I'm just running a basic 4 wire plug. Shouldn't be that complicated and the wires are coming out of the manufacturers bundle for trailer lights. There are 6 in the bundle. The two that I'm not using are both light green and don't seem to juice up for tail lights or blinkers. There is white- ground Brown- tail running Yellow- brake/left turn Green- brake/right turn I'm thinking of just patching into the actual truck lights and seeing if I can rewire them myself. I chopped the plug so I could individually run the lights. Tail lights work. Signals will work fine and will work with brake as long as the tail light wire (brown) is not stuck in the tester.

I know it sounds simple but before you do anything check all the grounds and make sure they have good contact to bare metal. My trailer lights were driving me nuts last week and all it was was a ground wire not making good contact. Bad grounds make trailer lights do funny things.

BigJon has it right - guys often forget that the ground makes ALL the lights shine (or not). And when they act goofy, it's cause Ground is not solid.

I get that on the ground deal. What I am dealing with is coming straight out of the manufacturers bundle from the truck. No trailer lights are involved. Using a tester and holding the ground wire from the bundle in the ground hole of the tester. If it is a ground it is somewhere in the truck system.

Is your wiring connected to the truck harness with a T-plug or are the wires spliced in. Most newer trucks have a T-plug in the actual wiring harness. If it does have a T-plug, check what it's doing right before that connection. You might just have a bad connection there... With most electrical problems, you just have to work backwards until you find a place where it's working right.

Basser, the wires are coming from a MASS of wiring between the spare and the bumper up under the bed. It all seems factory that is what is bugging me. No balls, trailers, or hitches are involved in this test.

What truck is it? Most newer trucks have a connector on the tail light wiring harness that comes apart where you can put a t-plug in to it for the trailer lights. If it's factory, it probably has the t-plug somewhere in that mass of wires. Maybe I misunderstood your response. Are the wires individually spliced in to the mass of wires?

2001- GMC Appears to have come factory with a 6 wire plug in the bumper. Purchased with 4 wire plug attached and sticking through the hole. Wire "bundle" is a large number of wires enveloped in black wire cover that Y's one the arms has the 6 wires coming from it with no visible connections. The rest of the wires go to what looks like a junction box that then sends wires to tail lights of truck and tag lights.
