75 yamaha fuel problems

I didn't know if anyone had any ideas on this subject. I run my boat year round and been out a lot already this year. This weekend the boat started fine and we headed out fishing. Then about 5 miles going up the river the boat sounded like it was starving out and slow down and eventually died. It would start back up and run fine at low speeds...5 to 8 mph without a problem. Then when you hammered down it would take off fine again in about a 1/8 mile going down the river starve out again. It will continue to do this fine at low speeds then about about a 1/8 mile of getting onto plane it would die out and start all over again. Any ideas?

fuel filter or bad fuel line, possibly a clog in an injector if it has them or carb that's gotten gummy, it's something in the fuel system most likely I'd start with these. Check for the obvious such as fuel leaks, even tiny ones rob it of the pressure it needs to operate, if none found check your plugs and see if their fouled, if not then try some sea foam or even new gas since it could be as simple as bad fuel

Thank you for your reply dgeddings. I also forgot to mention that I did place some muffs on the motor and ran in it the yard for 20 min last night at 5000 rpm. I also put a bottle of sea foam just in case. The boat didn't stave out so thought it might have worked out whatever problem it was having. I ran it up to my little local lake and had the same issues. When the boat is in idle it can rev high without cutting out for long periods. Put a load on the boat going forward and dies out after about 30 to 45 seconds on plane.

I had the same issue awhile back an it was the bulb.
I don't believe in Miracles, I rely on them.

and you shouldn't run over 1800 rpm on a water hose you can kill a powerhead that way, shocked you didn't have alarms blaring at you

Sure sounds like gas starvation -- IF your fuel bulb check valve is leaking by this will happen , also very common problem is that your fuel tank vent is screwed down and not venting - those are the simple things often overlooked -

Next its your carb bowl/needle seat float, and possibly small pieces of rubber hose breaking down as a result of ethanol.

I ended up buying a new yamaha line and bulb combo at acadamy. I don't know why but had a hard time getting the fittings to connect to my tank and outboard. I finally got it on but it never seemed to work...blub wouldn't get hard and never could get it to start. I ended up putting the old one back on and is working fine now. I even took the whole family on the boat and even pulling a tuber it didn't die. Im not quite sure what the deal was. I run the boat year round and never put ethonal in the 10 years Ive owned it...not sure what was up but its working fine now. Thanks for all the advice

Does it again check the o ring in the connection on the motor. They will flop over just over time and restrict fuel flow. First thing ever boat mechanic checks with a fuel restriction problem. I typical all was take them out. Just wiggling it around could temporally of fixed it.
