Is it a problem to catch shad on Boomer midmorning to midday this time of year? Any tips on locating them during the day and is finding them with sonar best?

Midmornig or later is best time - shad are closely schooled then, usually one cast does it all - on calm days you will see huge schools on top --

For this novice shad hunter it was extremely difficult. A buddy and I tried for 3 hrs and all we had too show for it was 25 giant shad.

I would use sonar, birds and visual. 8 foot net heavier the better

I managed to catch some extremely large shad but had trouble with numbers.  I caught tons of crappie but every time I thought I saw a large school of shad with the sonar it turned out to be crappie.  I netted over 50 crappie in one throw.  Am I in the wrong part of the lake?  I stayed near the boat ramp, worked the levee west of the bridge and tried near the spillway on the other side of the bridge.
